Word: Track Changes Keyboard Shortcut

Here's a handy tip! There's a keyboard shortcut that allows you to quickly turn the Track Changes in Microsoft Word on and off. This is especially useful for when you'd like to make a change without tracking it. Instead of going through and accepting the items you don't want to track, you can just temporarily turn it off before making the change. Then, you can use the shortcut to turn it back on. Just hold down these buttons on your keyboard:

Ctrl + Shift + E

  7. Here's a related tip. If you prefer a different keyboard shortcut, you can find the name of the command and then change its keyboard shortcut to something more intuitive like Ctrl+T or a function key.
Go to File – Options – Customize Ribbon – Keyboard shortcuts Customize. In the second row (Specify keyboard sequence), in the ‘Press new shortcut key’ window, enter the three-key command for Ctrl+Shift+E (press all three keys at once). Just below, Word will then tell you the name of the command for that shortcut, in this case, for toggling track changes on/off. Its very unintuitive name (thanks again, Microsoft!) is ToolsRevisionMarksToggle (I’d expect TrackChangesToggle). You can then go to up to the “Specify a command – Categories” (top left), scroll down to show All Commands, then on the top right side, scroll down till you get to ToolsRevisionMarksToggle. Select this. Go back down to Press new shortcut key, and assign it a new shortcut key like Ctrl+T or a function key.
